Keira’s Weight Loss Journey: The "Mommy & Me" May Challenge!
Keira’s weight loss journey continues—one stubborn step at a time! With her sore paws making walks a challenge, we’re launching a ‘Mommy & Me’ May fitness challenge. Mom’s aiming for 10,000 steps a day, while Keira will go as far as her fluffy spirit (and comfy feet) allow. Follow along as we track her ‘steps’ (aka Mom’s Fitbit proxy) and cheer her on! Will she beat her personal best? Or will the call of the couch win? Stay tuned for the drama!

Hello, Keira’s adoring fans! It’s been a little while since we last updated you on Keira’s weight loss journey, and let me tell you—it’s been a slow but steady process. If you’ve been following along, you know that Keira has always been… selective about her exercise. (Translation: She loves lounging more than walking, and who can blame her?)
The Struggle is Real (Especially for Those Paws)
One of the biggest hurdles in Keira’s fitness journey is her lifelong battle with pododermatitis, a condition that makes walking on rough surfaces (like Newfoundland’s ever-present gravel) painful for her. Because of this, our walks are often short and sweet. She’ll trot along happily for a few minutes, then suddenly plant her fluffy butt and give me the look—the one that says, "Nope, we’re done here. Turn this stroller around."
And you know what? I listen. If Keira says her paws hurt, we head home. Her comfort and health come first, even if it means our walks are more like "walk-and-stop-sniff-sessions" than actual cardio.
Introducing the "Mommy & Me" May Challenge!
Since Keira’s walks are still limited by her sore paws, I wanted to find a fun way to keep us both motivated. So, for the month of May, we’re doing a "Mommy & Me" fitness challenge! Here’s how it’ll work:
Mommy’s Goal: 10,000 steps per day (because let’s be real, I could stand to move more too).
Keira’s Goal: As many steps as her little paws can handle! Since I don’t have a Fitbit for her (though how cute would that be?), we’ll track my steps as her proxy.
Every day, I’ll log how far we go together, and at the end of the month, we’ll share a graph of Keira’s "steps" for her fans to follow along. Will she beat her personal best? Will she decide that three steps is enough and call it a day? Only time will tell!
Small Steps, Big Love
Keira’s journey isn’t about drastic changes—it’s about listening to her body and making tiny, sustainable improvements. Some days, that might mean a five-minute walk. Other days, it might mean extra playtime indoors (her favorite cardio is still "steal Mom’s socks and run").
We’d love for you to cheer us on! If you have a pup who also struggles with exercise limitations, share your stories in the comments. How do you keep your fur baby active while keeping them comfortable?
Here’s to a paw-sitive May! 🐾💕
